A galley kitchen boxed in behind a wall in a 1920s Heights bungalow asks a different question than a 1970s ranch kitchen with its short, low cabinets, and a new townhome kitchen with builder-grade everything asks a third. Most kitchen calls start the same way regardless of the house: something doesn't work anymore — not enough counter space, cabinets that were never level to begin with, a floor that doesn't match anything else in the house. The plan gets drawn from what's actually there, not from a catalog layout, and the whole room gets masked and protected before any of it starts, because a kitchen mid-remodel is still a kitchen the family has to live around.
Houston's lack of zoning means the same crew might do a full cabinet-and-counter kitchen in a Heights bungalow one week and a straightforward refresh in a five-year-old Meyerland townhome the next — and the two jobs don't share a starting point. The bungalow kitchen usually needs the wall behind the cabinets opened up to see what's really there before anything gets ordered. The newer kitchen is mostly a finish upgrade over builder work that was never wrong, just plain. Knowing which one you're walking into before the first cabinet comes down is what keeps an estimate from changing halfway through.
